Michael Vick Returns to the NFL
In order to know a little about Michael Vick it’s important to know a little about the story that surrounds him. He played the quarterback position for the Atlanta Falcons. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Vick had it all; fame, money, success. The opposing team would tremble when he walked out onto the football field.
One day, Vick’s world collapsed around him in a spiraling nightmare. The police authorities found a startling surprise in his residence: Vick was a promoter and owner of a savage dogfighting ring. Needless to say, fans all over the country were shocked upon finding out that their idol was a fan himself of dogfighting.
Amidst Vick and his “friends”, this was just another sport; a way to win money and have “fun”. Apparently, because Michael Vick was a celebrity that made him untouchable and the law doesn’t apply to superstars.
He was sentenced to 23 months in prison, although many people, not just activists, thought that this sentence was nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
Now, Michael Vick has just been signed to the Philadelphia Eagles for 1.6 million dollars in his first season. Depending on how he plays, he may even earn more.
At a press conference with the Eagles he said, “Our country is a country of second chances. I paid my debt to society. I spent two years in prison, away from my family. That was a humbling experience. I had to ask them for a second chance.”
And it seems like the NFL has decided to grand him this second chance. This season we’ll see whether or not Vick can get his groove back and return to the spot that has made him so popular.
